It is important to meet children where they are at and plan for individual children. This is especially important for children who are a little more introverted.
When outdoors, some children are not as active as others and might not want to do very physically demanding activities.
This is an example of one experience that Kate had with Olivia where we followed Olivia's much quieter interest and it turned into a great learning experience.
Olivia was sitting away from the play. Kate asked her what she wanted to do and Olivia said "collect flowers". So we went on a treasure hunt around the garden for flowers, collecting all different colours. At some point Robbie joined us.
Lynda asked Olivia "what do you think we can do with these?"
Olivia said "make a picture".
So Lynda went to get a couple of pieces of paper and both Olivia and Robbie arranged their flowers to make beautiful pictures.
Kate learnt about the importance of following through on children's interests even if it is the interest of only one child. If you follow the children, great learning can happen.
