Traineeship LLN Entry Tests
To gain enrolment into a Certificate 3 course and obtain a paid traineeship in early childhood, Kate will need to pass a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test. The Tests work on verbal comprehension, verbal and mathematical reasoning, higher order thinking and problem solving. On this page are links to sample tests Kate has previously taken via Gowrie.
In addition to the literacy and numeracy experiences recommended in this section of the website, Team Kate should regularly refer to these LLN Tests to ensure that they are working on Kate's skills with a view to being able to answer the questions in these tests accurately and in depth.
Kate will have a modified assessment procedure and should be able to answer the questions orally so we are aiming for her to have good comprehension and an ability to express herself openly and at length, rather than being able to write the answers down.
Kate has also been practising describing photos of children at play. It is recommended that coaches use Thinking Routines like See Think Wonder and I used to Think, Now I think to encourage Kate to go in depth with her descriptions, use examples from her work at HEY and ask questions/show curiosity. She should be able to make links with what she knows about learning through play from the blog posts on Play Experiences and child Development as well as the information about early childhood theory. She will not have to talk about the theory itself but will have to talk about practical applications of that theory. So basically WHY do we do the learning experiences we do with the children?
