Reading

Kate's reading ability is one of her strengths. Her coaches have been working on Kate slowing down and incorporating the tips from Speech Therapy to help Kate read more fluently. Team Kate have also been working on expression, light and shade and pace in relation to Kate's reading so that she is able to better engage children when reading to them. One of Kate's challenges in terms of her reading is her motivation to read more mature content. Her reading ability and comprehension level says she should be able to but Kate is unwilling at times to persevere with reading more difficult texts.

Kate should work to progress towards being able to read upper primary level chapter books, understanding and enjoying them. With reading it is important to foster a love of reading for reading's sake. Kate will also have to be able to read observations and documentation within early childhood settings. It is recommended that Kate read as much as she can - this could be reading magazines, newspapers, online content, Facebook articles, environmental print such as catalogues, signage, newsletters, menus, as well as books and novels.  It is also important that the choices of reading material reflect Kate's interests. For that reason, perhaps romantic young adult literature might be a nice place to start.

Here are some links to suggested reading material for Kate to foster in her a love of reading.
