Enthusiasm! - Kate's 8 Rules for Teaching a Dance

Kate loves teaching the children dances. Kate has choreographed a dance to the song "Dance Monkey" that the children adore and she has more recently choreographed a dance to "Dancing Queen".

Further to the Learning Through Dance and Kate's Hip Hop Dance posts, this post is specifically about HOW Kate can successfully teach the children a dance to make sure the children listen to her and are engaged in the learning experience.

As part of her Cert 3, Kate needs to show that she can interact with children showing enthusiasm (be excited to be there not bored), playfulness (join in and be silly) and enjoyment (smile and have fun).

Here are 8 Tips for Kate to have a great Dance Lesson with the children:

  1. Big loud voice

  2. Pretend like you're singing in the car to ABBA with Lynda

  3. Happy sparkly eyes

  4. Big smile

  5. No looking around

  6. No fiddling

  7. Explain steps - quick and clear

  8. Call out the steps during the dance in a loud and clear voice

These tips can be used whenever Kate is playing with the children and not just when dancing with them.

TASK: Practice teaching Dancing Queen to the children with your coach and ask them to video you so you can reflect on how you went. Reflect together with your coach. What did you do well? What could you have done better?
