The first Hindu festival that Kate learnt about was the Holi Festival which is widely known as the "Festival of Colour".
The Holi festival celebrates the end of winter and the triumph of good over evil. Hindus around the world but especially in India celebrate Holi by throwing rainbow coloured powders and water on each other. Each colour has a special meaning, which Kate explored on the Zoom Whiteboard below.
To help Kate understand the meaning behind the colours, we did an exercise where we linked feelings to the colours or wrote what the colours reminded us of.
Here is the link to the Time Magazine clip that Kate watched to learn about the Holi Festival.
TASK 1: Rewatch the Time video and read the article that goes with it. You can watch it with your mum or your coach.
What is the story or legend behind the Holi Festival? Can you do some more research on the Holi Festival and write a report on what you learn.
TASK 2: Do you think you could organise a "mini" Holi Festival activity at child care for the children? What would the activity look like? Do you think you would be allowed to throw coloured powder on top of each other? Why do you think that? What could be a way of still celebrating Holi but without throwing powder on each other? Discuss this with your coach.
