This is a photo of a Cultural Iceberg. As you can see the things about culture that are easy to see are up the top but there are loads of beliefs and attitudes that we get from our culture that is hard to see.
In order to understand our families at child care better, we need to understand the stuff from their culture that is hard to see. This helps us to better understand the children, their behaviour, their attitude to rules, the way they think.
To understand the families' cultural icebergs, we need to understand our own, especially our BIASES.
TASK: Kate - you will need to discuss this with your mum not your coach.
Have a look at the photo of the cultural iceberg and get mum to explain to you what the words under the sea mean. Go through each word and discuss with mum how being Greek has affected you in relation to each of those topics. For example: For Gestures, you like to talk with your hands.
