Kate and Poetry

Poetry has been another way of unlocking Kate's brain to the point where she is able to express herself very freely and clearly. If you ask Kate to write a paragraph about a topic she will struggle. But if you ask her to write a poem she will do it happily, write really well and write a lot.  Poetry is also a great way to manage our emotions in a safe space. Here is an example of a poem Kate wrote about her Cat Mickey who died.

Before writing poetry it is helpful to "brainstorm" with Kate on a topic. Simply ask her "tell me all about Mickey" for example.

Use this page to store samples of Kate's Poetry. It will be nice for Kate to read back on her poems as she gets older as they give an insight into how she felt in the moment but also how far she has come with her language and literacy through using the creative arts.
